Wow this place is fantastic!! We didn’t want to go to Starbucks again. So we stopped here. The coffee is great!! Pork buns, pineapple buns, custard thingies, everything fantastic. Homemade. Fresh. Clean. Super nice people!! Our new favorite place for bfast!!
Total was $68 and the receipt said $68 and when I got here they said it was an extra $5 AFTERWARDS WHEN I GOT THERE TO PICKUP. THIS PLACE SCAMS YOU IF YOU ARE NOT CHINESE.
I only recently heard of Irving Subs through word-of-mouth and I've been coming back and grabbing the custom tuna sandwhich. Their garlicky mayo sauce is fire! My go-to sandwich is the custom tuna with garlicky mayo and dijon mustard. Fire combo - you can't go wrong with it. It comes in neatly packed and the visuals and taste are on point.
It does get pretty busy during peak dinner hours on weekends. Expect to wait a bit longer than usual but IMO well worth it. There's a wooden seating area right outside for those waiting for their orders as well.
We ordered several sandwiches from here for a little get-together and were generally satisfied with everything. The sandwiches aren't particularly unique or inventive like Ike's or Lou's but they are well made with quality ingredients. This is not a place am dying to try again but wouldn't be mad about it if did.
l went to order my usual whipped cream frosted sponge cake when I discovered that I can have it filled with chestnut cream made from scratch on the premises. It made the cake amazingly rich and even more delicious and I recommend that you try this filling when you order your next cake there. All the other bakery items are still as good as ever. Of course if you have peanut allergies it may be wise to avoid other nuts such as chestnuts as well. Prices up a few dollars on cakes San Francisco is expensive to do business. This fine bakery is now open again on its normal operating hours seven days a week. FYI Prices are up like everywhere in this period of high inflation.
Really tasty classic subs. Takes 15 minutes to make after you order, so have a wander around the area (maybe visit Beanery cafe nearby and grab a drink to go) while you wait.
Everything about my sandwich was great. Maybe a bit more avocado when paying $2 extra? But it was delicious. Crunchy bread, not too much mayo, thick pickles, even the tomato was ripe.

Service: 4/5
Ambiance: 3/5
Overall: I've been coming here for years for pork buns.
The extended review...
Buns:
Pork Buns - 4/5 - The buns are pretty good. Always have a couple of these for breakfast during the week. It's a quick eat that I can appreciate.
Service: 4/5 - Friendly service.
Ambiance: 3/5 - It's a small place and could use a little more refurbishment but for the most part I take it to go.
