Really nice place. Ambiance, food, and service were all great. The manager was sweet, brought our kids some chocolate at the end of the meal, which made their day.

Nice Chinese dim sum, staff can speak multiple languages, very helpful

Please note: The address is correct, however, the directions from Google Maps will take you to the old location on Commercial St. Hopefully they will fix this soon. The restaurant is across Walter Lum PL from Portsmouth Square. So if you find the square, you are almost there. Don't go to Commercial St, it will say the restaurant is permanently closed.
The food is good, but not the best. This is San Francisco after all, a city where there are more dimsum places than most other cuisines. It's not bad, but I've had better elsewhere. But it's a great place for families & large groups. The food comes very quickly so you don't have to wait long.
The atmosphere is a little loud, but what Chinese restaurant isn't? This is a great place if you are from out of town & want to experience a good dimsum place in the oldest Chinatown in the US.

I tavoli sono inseriti in strutture in legno e c’è molta più privacy. Servizio veloce ed efficiente. Menu con foto e quindi facile da consultare. Purtroppo solo 3 stelle perché siamo rimasti delusi dai piatti. Abbiamo preso Bun, dumplings, rolls ed il sesame chicken…I Bun erano quasi privi di ripieno e l’esterno gommoso, i dumplings insapori…il pollo troppo cotto e la qualità della carne discutibile. Alla fine abbiamo lasciato una parte dell’ordinato…

Everything is a tad bit better here. You pay more, but it's all delightful enough to get past the price. Our party of three ordered lots of dim sum for about $130, and we thought they easily earned a good tip. I'm going back to try more.

The food here was very tasty. They have such a nice variety and everyone was very nice.

Yummy and fresh dim sum in a beautiful setting.

Peking duck with lotus bun was absolutely phenomenal. Meat was tender, duck skin was crispy yet so juicy, bun was bun-ing. Will definitely order this again next time I go Honorable mention to the BBQ steamed pork bun - it was also warm and flavorful!

Overall I had a great experience at City View, especially because the service was amazing. My food arrived quickly and the waiter was super attentive. Highly recommend this place if you're in Chinatown!

Okay, now the main part:
It had a small wait when we came, but they have plenty of indoor seating to wait near front desk. We were seated in about 5 mins. The food came in quick and was very very good.
I'd strongly recommend Tofu Skinned dumplings and the soup dumplings. The food is fresh and high quality, and service is fast!

The servers wore masks and gloves, and the atmosphere was kid friendly!

Excellent Dim Sum.

Awesome for a dimsum lunch. Food is great. Service is fast and efficient. Intimate atmosphere.

Shrimp Dumplings: These delicate dumplings burst with flavor, and the shrimp filling is perfectly tender.
Shanghai Siu Lung Bao: The soup-filled dumplings are a delightful surprise. Each bite releases a savory explosion in your mouth.
Pork Siu Mai: These little parcels of joy are steamed to perfection. The combination of pork and shrimp is delicious.
Crab Claws: Crispy on the outside, succulent on the inside. The crab claws are a must-try!
Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll: Silky rice noodles envelop plump shrimp, which tastes ok for me, not my favorite.
Chicken Feet: They’re flavorful and tender.
Peking Duck with Lotus Bun: The crispy duck skin, paired with soft lotus buns, is a match made in culinary heaven.
Black Bean Spareribs: These fall-off-the-bone ribs are richly seasoned with black bean sauce.
The service is attentive, and the ambiance is cozy!

Upon our arrival at around 11 am, we were informed by the attentive waiter that there would be a brief 30-minute wait, and we were promptly added to the waitlist. Our meal included delightful offerings such as shrimp dumplings, Shanghai siu lung bao, pork siu mai, crab claws, shrimp rice noodle roll, chicken feet, and the standout, sesame balls with red beans.

Efficient service delivered most dishes within 10 minutes, enhancing our overall satisfaction. The must-try highlights are the flavorful crab claws and the harmonious sesame balls. The fried crab claws were a revelation, encased in a crispy crust with succulent shrimp and crab within.

The dessert finale, sesame balls with red beans, amazed us. Reserved till last, they remained warm with a delightful texture. The red bean filling's sweetness balanced perfectly, while the chewy sesame ball defied expectations, testament to the kitchen's mastery.

Fantastic place to get dim sum in the city. Second time being here and I highly recommend arriving early around 11am if you can. After 12 is when it gets really busy, but even then it’s worth the wait!

I had a funny exchange with the waiter when I wanted to order a whole duck along with several other dishes, and he was surprised and recommended the individual 2pc duck portions. After eating, I think that was the right decision for a table of three. I highly recommend getting an order of the 2pc duck. They give you buns, hoisin sauce, and a thick cut of juicy duck.

Aside from that, I recommend the classic dishes and especially the pork siu mai.

I see a lot of reviews about slow service, it gets very busy at 12:30pm so come with that expectation or come early.

One of a few skyline views

SLOWEST dim sum restaurant that I've ever visited.... It took 45~50 minutes for us to get 6 dishes (typical dishes like dumplings, not the ones that take a lot of time to cook). At first, we thought the delay was due to the number of customers. However, a couple of groups who came at least 10~15 minutes after us got their dishes within 10 minutes, while we still waited for our dishes to arrive.

This place is clean inside but the service was just terrible. We asked the server when our dishes would arrive, and all she told us was to just wait...

Place to avoid if you are a tourist who wants authentic dim sum experience.

Belle expérience au City View Restaurant à San Francisco. La cuisine était exquise. Un vrai régal! Waouhh!
